Making an Appointment

Dr Crowley consults and operates from his Private Practice in Adelaide and is a Senior Visiting Orthopaedic Specialist at the Lyell McEwin Hospital in Elizabeth Vale and the Modbury Hospital. A referral from your GP or another doctor is required to see Dr Crowley.

To make an appointment at Dr Crowley's Private Practice in Adelaide, please telephone (08) 8267 1110.

Consulting sessions at the Lyell McEwin Hospital and Modbury Hospital are organised by the Orthopaedic Outpatient Services at LMH and MH. GP referrals and relevant X-rays/scans need to be faxed to these locations. Patients will be prioritised according to urgency and each clinic will call the patient to confirm appointment details.

Please note that a number of different Orthopaedic Surgeons consult at both Modbury and the Lyell McEwin Hospital, and that you will not necessarily see or have any necessary surgery with Dr Crowley. If you have any questions about this process, you can call Lyell McEwin Hospital Outpatient Services on (08) 8182 9000 or Modbury Hospital on (08) 8161 2262 for clarification.

Things to discuss with Dr Crowley

Please advise Dr Crowley of your medical history, current medical conditions and the medications you are taking, including over the counter or herbal medications. This information is very important. It may affect your recovery and also may influence the course of treatment he suggests for you.

Once Dr Crowley has examined you he will discuss your condition and treatment plan with you. He may suggest further tests or physiotherapy. If surgery is recommended this will be explained to you. It is vital that you fully understand your condition, the alternative treatments available and the recommended course of treatment. Please ensure that you discuss any concerns with Dr Crowley so that you understand the possible complications associated with any surgical procedure offered.

Costs of Surgery

If Dr Crowley recommends surgery and you choose to proceed with it, our staff will provide you with a financial quotation for the operation at the time of booking. This quotation will set out in detail all of the costs involved in the surgery. Please do not hesitate to contact our staff if you need any further explanation of these costs.

Dr Crowley operates at The Memorial Hospital, Lyell McEwin Hospital and Modbury Hospital.

Pre-admission Requirements

The pre-admission requirements vary depending on a number of factors, including the hospital you are having your surgery at, what procedure you are having and your medical history. This will be fully explained to you by Dr Crowley and his staff at the time you make your surgery booking. Most day surgery patients (for example, those having arthroscopic surgery) will see an anaesthetist for evaluation on admission to hospital. However, some day patients and all patients being admitted for surgery requiring an overnight stay in hospital will need a full anaesthetic evaluation prior to admission. In a limited number of cases, an additional physician evaluation may also be required.

Post Surgical Care

The arrangements for your post-surgical care will vary depending on where you had your surgery and where you live. Dr Crowley and his staff will discuss this with you at the time you make your surgical appointment.

For patients who have had surgery at the Lyell McEwin or Modbury Hospitals, please note that it may not always be possible to see Dr Crowley for your post-operative appointment, as a number of different Orthopaedic Surgeons consult at Modbury and the Lyell McEwin Orthopaedic Outpatients Services on different days.

If you have any particular concerns you wish to discuss with Dr Crowley, please speak to the Clinic staff at Lyell McEwin Hospital (08) 8182 9000 or Modbury Hospital on (08) 8161 2262. They may be able to assist you in booking an appointment at a time when Dr Crowley is consulting in the Outpatients Clinic.
